Where it makes sense
BaseCamp is a foam-filled self-inflating pad for campers who prefer a relatively simple mattress and have room to transport it. Its modest height can be useful in tents where a taller bed eats into wall clearance. The Regular size is only 20 inches wide, so it should be tried by anyone whose elbows or bent knees tend to leave a narrow mat. The verified insulation figure belongs to the pad, not to the whole bag-and-pad system. This is a sensible comparison point against thicker car mattresses: decide whether the lower bulk and height suit you before assuming you need the deepest mattress available.
The tradeoff
Less cushioning depth and width than larger car mattresses; Regular still weighs 2 lb 8 oz.
