Make a repair card for the equipment you will carry
A useful repair pouch starts with the gear laid out beside it. For each essential item, write the failure you could plausibly address, the exact compatible material or spare, and where its instructions are saved. A patch for a fabric panel, a pad-specific repair, and a shelter pole sleeve serve different jobs. A packet marked universal does not establish that it fits any of them.
Resolve existing defects before departure. On a short first overnight, a major failure may be best handled by returning to the trailhead. Carrying more adhesives does not make a remote route easier or give you a repair skill you have not practiced.

Choose fabric tape for compatible small tears
GEAR AID Tenacious Tape Repair Tape is a candidate for a small tear in a compatible fabric panel. The black nylon strip can be cut to size, which is useful when the kit contains more than one type of nylon or polyester item. Identify the fabric coating first. A familiar-looking tent fly may need a different product from the inner tent or an uncoated clothing panel.
Keep the tape on its original release backing inside a clean pouch. Do not let adhesive edges collect grit while trying to make the kit look smaller. Pack the cutting tool only if the tape and the rest of the trip require it; suitable pre-cut pieces can simplify a short-trip kit when prepared according to the product instructions. Preserve enough material for the required overlap around the damage.
Treat a sleeping-pad puncture as its own problem
The pad manufacturer’s supplied kit or recommended method is the first reference.
