Sleeping Bags

Choose in this order: your trip’s plausible overnight conditions, a suitable insulated pad, the bag’s documented comfort guidance, then length and girth. Try the bag in your normal sleep position with the layers you expect to wear. For trips beside a vehicle, room and simple venting can outweigh packed size. For a carried kit, compare the exact size’s weight and packed volume. Keep a warmer contingency or change plans when the complete system leaves too much uncertainty.

Start with the decision

A sleeping bag is a personal fit decision as much as an insulation purchase. A tall camper, a curled-up side sleeper, and someone who spreads their knees can need different shapes even on the same trip. Start with the expected conditions and your sleeping pad, then compare user-height limits, shoulder and hip room, closures, and the meaning of each temperature label. This collection explains where rectangular bags make sense, when a more shaped backpacking bag earns its space in a pack, and how quilts change the setup. Our product shortlists come from documented manufacturer information and practical comparisons, rather than claimed nights of testing. A number in a product name is never a promise that every person will sleep comfortably at that temperature. The guides also cover drying, washing, storage, and the checks that help a bag keep working after the first weekend.
